Weekend: CBL Basketball Finals & 45 Other Cary Events

Cary, NC – How’s this for exciting: the Continental Basketball League 2011 Finals are this Friday at Herb Young Community Center. It’s the Cary Invasion vs. the Florida Fight at 7 PM.

Weekend Events in Cary

Relatively speaking, it’s a pretty quiet weekend in Cary – only 46 events on the Calendar. But a few of them are doozies!

Thursday (always part of our weekend)

Thursdays always have lots of mom and toddler stuff. But this new and interesting item popped up this week: Tastings on the Terrace at Heron’s in the Umstead Hotel, 5:30 – 7:30. Light bites and a flight of wines on a terrace to die for right here in Cary.  Could be romantic.

Friday

As mentioned, the Cary Invasion face the Florida Flight in the 2011 CBL Championship game. 7 PM at Herb Young Community Center.  The Cary Invasion have had a crazy-good inaugural season and have been an underground sensation in downtown Cary this spring. Expect the league finals to be madness.

And if basketball is not your thing, Friday boasts an embarrassment of cultural riches. There’s the Cary Art Loop from 6-9, also downtown, Playwright’s Forum Showcase at Bond Park Community Center, 7:30 – 9:30 pm and the Paddling Film Festival at RallyPoint, 7 pm.

Saturday

Saturday in spring, summer and fall always starts off with a trip to the one of the Cary farmers markets or DJ’s Berry Patch. Looking forward to some peak Piedmont summer fruits like mouth-wateringly fresh local peaches, cantaloupes, vine-ripened tomatoes, blueberries. Yes, if you never go-local at one of our farmstands, this would be a good weekend to try it.

RallyPoint and Playwright’s Forum are running their programs again. There’s also the NC Symphony playing Swan Lake at Booth Amphitheatre. In Cary.
