Cary, NC – Just when you think the Cary Calendar of Events has run out surprises, along comes a weekend that includes Veterans Day on 11/11/11, a Smash Bros. gaming event at the library, the ACC Men’s Soccer Championships and a show Cary Arts Center featuring Grey Seal Puppets.

Friday: Veterans Day

Lots going on for Veterans Day in the Triangle, and many places you can observe the holiday right here in Cary. But we’d like to call attention to the remembrance this Friday at the Cary YMCA.

On Friday, November 11th @ 10:50 a.m., the Cary Family YMCA will hold it’s second annual Veterans Day celebration.  To honor Veterans, members and the community will gather in front of the main building for a flag-raising ceremony conducted by the NC State Air Force ROTC color guard.  Grace Christian School band will perform.  Veteran and Cary Town Councilman Jack Smith will speak.  This event is for all ages.

You can also visit the Veterans Memorial on Harrison Av, Hillcrest Cemetery on Page Street downtown or bring an old flag for retirement to the Cary American Legion. More info on the Calendar.

Saturday: Smash Bros Gaming

From 1:00 – 4:30 pm, it’s National Gaming Day at the Eva Perry Library. From the Calendar:

Celebrate gaming in libraries. Libraries all over the country will be playing, too. Compete against other players ages 12 and up in Summer Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. One winner named at the end.

All Weekend: ACC Men’s Soccer Championship

Friday night at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, the ACC will hold its semi-final Men’s Soccer championships.

At 5:30, top-seeded UNC faces Virginia. And at 7:30, Boston College faces Duke.

Sunday at 12:00 noon is the ACC Men’s Soccer Final. More info at TheACC.com.

Sunday: Grey Seal Puppets

Sunday from 3-4 pm, Grey Seal Puppets will have a show at Cary Arts Center.

Three favorite folktales from around the world come to life with a touch of the familiar and a taste of the new. Using a variety of puppet styles, “The Frog Prince” from Germany, “Three Billy Goats Gruff” from Scandinavia and “The Three Little Pigs” from England are each told with refreshing wit and wisdom.

Grey Seal Puppets does over 300 shows a year and also does design including the mascot for the NBA Charlotte Bobcats. Tickets are $5.00 and are available at eTix or in person at the Cary Arts Center, M-F 10 am – 8 p. or Sat. 10 am – 1 pm.
