Weekend Events: Tree Lightings, Holiday Shopping and More
Cary, NC – It’s the first week of December so in between holiday shopping and bundling up for the cold, here are some fun weekend events for you to enjoy.

Thursday, December 1, 2016
The Cary Theater is starting its series of Christmas movies all December long, starting with Mixed Nuts at 9:15 PM. There is also the non-holiday comedy film The Pickle Recipe playing at 2 and 7 PM on Thursday.
The Cary Players put on their Christmas play, “The Best Ever Christmas Pageant,” running from December 1 to 5. It takes place at the Cary Arts Center at 7:30 PM.
The Cary Photographic Artists are having their meeting for photographers to meet and talk, as well as have a presentation by a featured photographer. It takes place at the Cary Theater at 7 PM.

Friday, December 2, 2016
Mad Dash Babysitting is an opportunity for parents and guardians to make sure their children are taken care of while they do their holiday shopping or go to local events. It’s at the Herb Young Community Center from 5:30 to 9:30 PM.
The Value of Aging is a gallery at the Cary Senior Center that opens on Friday. It shows photography of the elderly to show the beauty of the aging process. It will be open until Friday, January 6, 2017 and the opening reception starts at 6 PM.
Morrisville’s Tree Lighting takes place at the Indian Creek Greenway. There will also be activities and crafts available, all starting at 7 PM.

Saturday, December 3, 2016
Santa’s Workshop is an arts and crafts event at the Herb Young Community Center from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. Kids 10 and younger can work on crafts while waiting to sit on Santa’s lap.
Page-Walker is having their holiday open house with tours to learn all about its history. There will also be a horse-drawn carriage for rides and carolers singing, all starting at 4 PM.
Cary’s Tree Lighting takes place on Cary Town Hall Campus. Come out to see the tree light up at 6 PM.

Sunday, December 4, 2016
Locally Made Market is an event for local artisans to bring in their goods. It takes place at the Mayton Inn at noon and there will also be door prizes and giveaways.
Beyond the Curtain is a gallery and silent auction for the art of local artist Ella Tracey Williams who passed away this year. It takes place at Village Art Circle and money from the auction goes to the American Cancer Society.
The Cary Community Choir is performing the music of Handel, including the holiday classic “Messiah.” The choir is made up of 100 volunteers who will be performing at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church at 7:30 PM.

Around the Triangle
An Evening with Elves is a fun event all around Marbles Museum in Downtown Raleigh on Friday with activities, food and more starting at 6 PM.
The Messiah Choruses perform at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM both days as well as noon on Friday. The chorus will be performing the music of Handel as well as others.
American Tobacco’s Tower Lighting is a community wide event with music by artists and groups from all around Durham before the tower is lit up for December on Friday. It all starts at the American Tobacco Amphitheater on Blackwell Street at 6 PM.
