Harold’s Blog: New York Trip, 2019 Election and More

Cary, NC – This week’s focus was mostly on a trip to New York.

Monday – Election Planning

Monday, I met briefly with the town manager for our weekly one-on-one. We talked about a range of topics that included the mall redevelopment, the hotel occupancy and meal tax, and my trip to New York.

Later Monday I held my first official campaign re-election committee meeting. We decided on treasurer issues and how we planned to proceeding.

Cary, NC – This week was a typical council meeting week.

Monday – Hospitality Tax

Monday, I attempted to contact council members to hear of any questions or concerns about the agenda for Thursday’s meeting. The agenda was mostly public hearings so there were very few questions. Later in the day I met with key staff members and the Mayor Pro-Tem to go over the agenda. At that time, we believed the only public speakers would be with the Twyla Road public hearing.

Cary Town Council: SearStone, North Carolina Courage and More

Cary, NC – At the latest Cary Town Council meeting, Town Council heard the latest amendment proposal for SearStone’s Phase II, held the Public Hearing for the upcoming bond referendum, looked at a new rezoning plan for the Twyla Road area and also recognized the North Carolina Courage’s various successes.

PineCone Executive Director Named Cary’s New Cultural Arts Manager

Cary, NC – The Town of Cary selected William Lewis, executive director of the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, Inc. or PineCone, to take over as the town’s cultural arts manager, replacing Lyman Collins who is retiring after 20 years.

This was a slow week which is typical for this time of year.

Monday – Preparing for the Week

Monday I attempted to contact all council members to hear concerns or questions about the upcoming meeting that I could discuss with staff. I contacted each of them except one. There were no concerns but based on my conversations it seemed that support for the Roberts Road rezoning was doubtful.

Cary, NC – At the latest Cary Town Council meeting, the council passed the 2020 budget, confirmed the Master Plan for two new parks, held the Pinning Ceremony for Cary’s new police chief and more.
