Local Publisher Wins Knight Fellowship

Cary, NC – CaryCitizen Associate Publisher Lindsey Chester was notified on Friday that she had won a 2011 Knight Digital Media Center Fellowship. She will travel to Los Angeles, California in May to  study for a week at USC as part of KDMC News Entrepreneur Boot Camp.

The Fellowship

KDMC describes the program:

“This intense one-week boot camp plus 6-week online learning program is designed for 20 competitively selected digital entrepreneurs with great ideas for community news and information initiatives in the public interest

Expert faculty from both academia and the private sector provide intense instruction, coaching and mentoring on developing marketable business plans for building organizations that provide news and information in the public interest.”

The Fellowship Grant includes a travel stipend plus all room, board and tuition costs.

“I’m really honored to be selected for a Knight fellowship,” said Ms. Chester. “I’m looking forward to learning a lot and connecting with other hyperlocal publishers. I’m pretty jazzed about the trip to L.A., too.”

Knight Digital Media Center

The Knight Digital Media Center at the University of Southern California is a partnership between USC Annenberg and UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and funded by the Knight Foundation.

Report from L.A.

Maybe Lindsey will blog a little from her trip to Los Angeles. It doesn’t have to be all new media wonkery – it can be fashion trends, too.
