Cary’s First Reuse Rodeo: What’s in Your Closet?
Story by Leslie Huffman. Photo by K.
Cary, NC – I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of stuff in my closets that really needs to go. My kids are growing so fast. Their closets are full of last year’s barely worn clothing and shoes that no longer fit.
I have an old desk chair and child-size beach chairs that we don’t use anymore. A perfectly good coffee machine and a never used Easy Bake Oven are just waiting for a new home. What’s in your closet?
Round Up Those Re-Useables
The Town of Cary is teaming up with the Triangle Reuse Alliance and local non-profit organizations to collect all your goodies that can be reused. Fill your boxes and bags with:
- gently used clothing
- shoes
- toys
- small appliances
- furniture
- home decorations
- art supplies
“The Reuse Rodeo is a creative way to raise awareness about the importance of reuse through community goodwill,” said Sarah Justice, Spruce Coordinator and Conservation Specialist. “The Town of Cary is creating a convenient solution for our citizens to drop off unwanted items at one central location to fill local needs instead of our landfills.”
Drop off everything at one location this Saturday!

Where Does Your Stuff Go?
De-cluttering your closets is one thing, but by bringing your no-longer-used items to the Reuse Rodeo, you are making a difference in our community. Not only do these non-profits benefit, but folks who can’t afford basic necessities get the opportunity to purchase quality items at minimal cost.
Non-profits Share Our Shoes, The Scrap Exchange, The Carying Place and Dorcas Ministries will be on hand to collect your donations. They are grateful for the chance to take yours items and turn them into opportunity.
Here is a list of their needs:
- Dorcas Ministries – gently used clothing, shoes, toys, jewelry, small appliances such as microwaves, lamps, and stereos.
- The Carying Place – Dining tables with chairs , coffee tables, small armchairs, side tables, small rugs 8X10, washers and dryers in good condition, bedroom furniture, twin & full mattresses and box springs, dressers.
