Cary, NC – Cary weekends are always amazing. This last weekend in October, the CaryCitizen Calendar of Events fairly howls with amazing.

Th, Fri, Sat – Hemlock Bluffs Yard Sale

Before we get to the spooky stuff, this is the weekend of Hemlock Bluff’s annual Recycle Sale, also known as the big yard sale in the woods.

It is the annual fundraiser for the wonderful nature park. You can contribute in two ways:

• Drop off Stuff – You can donate items for the yard sale on Thursday and Friday
• Buy Stuff – the sale is on Saturday, October 29 from 8 am to 1 pm. Get there early for the best stuff.

Friday – Haunted Tour of Cary

Cary Players and the Town of Cary team up to present the Third Annual Haunted Twilight Tour Friday October 28th.

Learn a bit of Cary history from some spooky storytellers as you walk through downtown. Space is limited so order your tickets now! Tickets are $13.00 and may be purchased at the Cary Arts Center box office or on line at Etix. Tours depart the Page-Walker Arts and History Center at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 pm. Recommended for ages 12 and up. Call 460-4963 for more information.

Saturday – 53rd Annual Cary Band Day

Yes, that’s right. Saturday October 29, 2011 is the 53rd Annual Cary Band Day.

Band Day, for most Cary-ites, falls into two parts:

• The Parade
• Field Competitions

The parade steps off on East Chaham at 10 AM and proceeds up Academy, past Cary Arts Center and up Walnut to Cary High. There are floats, vintage cars, boys scouts and girls scouts. And some of the finest high school marching bands in North Carolina.

The streets gett pretty packed along the parade route. CaryBand.org recommends the best spots to watch ar aAlong Academy and along Walnut (more elbow room up that way).

The field competitions go on all day at Cary High from noon until about 10:30 pm. High schools compete in five different divisions.

Saturday Night – Howlin Good Halloween Celebration

Saturday evening from 5 – 9 pm, there’s a frighteningly good time to be had in downtown Cary.

It starts at the Herb Young Community Center, travels up Academy Street and continues on at the Cary Arts Center. Here’s the run-down:

• 5-7 pm Tricks and Treats Halloween Bash- from the cary Teen Council $1/ participant (includes Hayride)
• 5-7 Pumpkin Painting- preregistration required. $5 person. Downtown Cary
• 5:30-7:30 Trick or Treating between Ashworth’s and the Cary Arts Center
• 5:30-7:30 Hayride shuttle between Herb Young and Ashworth’s Village (ticket required) Cary Arts Center
• 5:30-7 Not so scary storytelling
• 6-8 Clay pumpkin carving $5 per person, pre-registration required.
• 6-8 Bluegrass on the porch
• 6-9 Fright School’s 6th annual haunted house -$1 person
