CaryCitizen Welcomes Summer Intern Brian Schmid
Story and photo by CaryCitizen Publisher Hal Goodtree.
Cary, NC – CaryCitizen is pleased to welcome Brian Schmid as our official Summer Intern.
Brian Schmid, A Special Kid
Brian is a rising senior at Cary High. He’s the Commander of Navy Junior ROTC, Sailing Team Captain and a member of Troop 212 in Cary pursuing his Eagle Scout.
We expect Brian to lend an atmosphere of maturity to the CaryCitizen office downtown.
Q&A: Brian Schmid
I asked Brian a couple of questions for this story:
Where did you grow up? “I grew up in Cary but was born in New York City where my dad was a firefighter.”
Favorite thing about Cary: “The rivalries between the high schools.”
Interesting fact: “I got to go skating on the Booth Ampitheater Ice Rink the night before it opened.”
Brian will be writing a series of feature stories for CaryCitizen over the summer to earn his Internship Certificate. Last year’s summer intern, Brennin Cummings of Ithaca College, had some great contributions and we look for more of the same from Brian this summer.
Congratulation, Brian, on joining a great organization! I will look forward to your contributions to CaryCitizen.
Just don’t let it get it the way of completing your Eagle Scout ;-)
– Brent (Eagle Scout ’79)
Is there a Journalism badge, Brent? We’d make him earn it.
You bet there is, Hal! (really!)

It appears that the requirements haven’t fully caught up to online journalism, but I still think that this should be a slam dunk for Brian. :)
Brian – you might have to fight Matt and Hal for it, but get out to a Railhawks game! It’s a great time, even, dare I say it, for the press!!
I can’t speak for the other gentlemen in the press room, but we always have a blast.
