Events: A Gold Medal Weekend in Cary

Lindsey Chester edits the CaryCitizen Calendar of Events.

Cary, NC – How’s this for a (relatively) slow weekend in Cary – a sports injury prevention clinic featuring an Olympic Gold Medalist, a concert by Old Crow Medicine Show and a “Release Weekend” for the 2009 Cabernet at Chatham Hill Winery.

Sports Injury Prevention Clinic

Free youth sports injury prevention clinic this Saturday from 4 PM – 5:30 PM. Event to feature Carolina RailHawks Pros and Olympic Gold Medalist Carla Overbeck at WakeMed Soccer Park,

The clinic is sponsored by DuPuy Mitek and is being hosted by Safe Kids Wake County. WakeMed and Wake Orthopaedics experts will discuss how to prevent and manage sports-related injuries in young athletes with sessions including:

  • ACL and overuse injuries
  • proper stretching
  • warm-up and cool-down exercises
  • injury prevention practices for coaches
  • parent question and answer session with orthopaedic physicians

Participants will have the opportunity to meet the pros from the Carolina RailHawks, as well as special guest, Carla Overbeck, Olympic Gold Medalist and former captain of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team.

All registered participants and their families will receive free tickets and meal vouchers for the RailHawks vs. FC Edmonton soccer match following the clinic.

Old Crow Medicine Show

Roots revival sensation Old Crow Medicine Show (OCMS) takes the stage at Booth Amphitheatre on Saturday with opening act the Lumineers.

Watch this great video of OCMS with Gillian Welch covering The Weight by The Band. Get tickets to OCMS.

The New Cabernet

We’ve had wine tastings before on Weekend Events. But never a winery “Release Event.” The details from Chatham Hill Winery in Morrisville:

Come in this weekend to be one of the first to sample our spanking new 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon: Dry, bursting with flavors of blackberries leading to light oak and a hint of pepper, with mellow tannins. Also, we will conduct a component tasting with our 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. “What’s a Component Tasting you ask?”  We will have blackberries on hand to help you identify the rich berry flavor of this wine.

Chatham Hill Winery is at 3800 Gateway Centre Blvd. Suite 310, in Morrisville just off Aviation Parkway before you cross I-40 heading toward the airport. Winery hours are 11 AM – 6 PM on Saturday and 1 – 5 PM on Sunday. More info: www.chathamhillwine.com
