Raleigh, NC – Triangle Youth Music, part of The Philharmonic Association, is hoping to win a $1000 grant and has posted their goal on the Power2Give website. They have just a month (until early February) to earn donations for their cause. Power2give.org is an online cultural marketplace that was launched December 10 in Wake County. Similar to DonorsChoose for school projects, Power2give is exclusively for arts non-profits and is designed to connect donors and projects they are passionate about.

About This Project

The Triangle Youth String Orchestras began their Trip Around the World Through Musicduring their November Concert. The program included 11 songs from different countries in a concert designed to expose children to world music. To increase this program,

Margaret Partridge, Executive Director hopes the website can help the group reach its goal quickly. She wants to purchase additional international sheet music for the upcoming Spring program in April to be held at the Cary Arts Center.

For bands and orchestras, one of the single biggest expenses is the purchase of sheet music for their members. Music must be purchased in order to have the right to perform it in public, and to have the sheets notated for the various parts in the orchestra. (you can’t simply “download “)

When some local schools discontinued their string programs in 2009, the Philharmonic Association – Triangle Youth Music added a non-auditioned string orchestra to their roster of 3 full orchestras. Today, they have 3 string orchestras serving over 100 young musicians and 450 participants in their eight ensembles. This is the group’s 25th anniversary season.

The Philharmonic Association is looking for donors to help them purchase more international sheet music for the Triangle Youth String Orchestra to perform at the Cary Arts Center this April.
