Cary, NC – Relatively speaking, it’s a weekend of small pleasures on the Calendar. No big rock concert or gigantic street fair. But sometimes, it’s the small pleasures that most satisfy.

MLK, Jr. Dreamfest Women of Action Gathering – The 3rd Annual Women of Action Gathering will continue its purpose of facilitating an association of women of action, organizations and businesses exploring possibilities of forming cooperative partnerships and relationships for life. Lisa Carol Williams will be the keynote speaker. Featuring live music by Gerald Hinton. Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 7-8 PM. Free.

Story time with Skippy John Jones – This just sounds like fun. Barnes & Noble, 7-8 PM. Free.

Live Jazz at Unwine’d – This happens every week. Maybe this Friday is a good time to check it out if you have nothing else going on. This week, the Bruce Smith Trio is playing from 8-11 PM.

MLK, Jr Dreamfest Celebration: Desegragating Cary – From Town of Cary: “2013 is the 50th anniversary of desegregating Cary High School. Join us for a special video presentation and discussion about this significant event in Cary’s history. For younger children, we’ll have a variety of children’s activities available during the panel discussion. The afternoon will end with a reception and musical tribute to Dr. King.” 3 PM, Cary Arts Center.

The Friends of Page-Walker presents Jon Shain – From Friends of Page-Walker: “Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who’s been turning heads for years with his words, his fiery acoustic guitar work, and his musical style – combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass, swing, and ragtime. The Friends of Page-Walker 2012-13 Concert Series is a series of intimate Sunday afternoon concerts held at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center. Light refreshments served at intermission.
