Bank of America Supports Y Learning with $25,000 Gift

Cary, NC- The YMCA of the Triangle received a $25,000 gift from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation on Thursday, April 25.

The donation will help fund a Y Learning Program at Reedy Creek Middle School in Cary.

“We are grateful for Bank of America’s generous support that brings us closer to bridging the education gap in our communities,” said YMCA of the Triangle CEO Doug McMillan. “Their gift allows us to offer Y Learning at Reedy Creek Middle School. The cost for one child to participate in this important program is $1,355 per year.”

Y Learning at Reedy Creek

The Y Learning program at Reedy Creek Middle School serves 30 students through a hands-on science and math curriculum. Y Learning, the YMCA of the Triangle’s standardized tutorial program, serves students in grades 3 – 8 who struggle to reach school system benchmarks.

Most Y Learning students lack financial and educational support at home. Students participate in Y Learning at no cost, thanks to donations to the YMCA’s annual We Build People Campaign and community support.

“Today, students are not graduating with the knowledge and skills needed for success inthe workplace,” said Kari Stoltz, Triangle market president, Bank of America. “Programslike Y Learning provide our youth with the essential foundation for future economicachievements.”

Today, more than 1,200 children in Wake, Durham, Lee and Pamlico Counties receive homework assistance and academic enrichment through Y Learning.
