Tech Events in the Triangle – June ’13 Edition

Cary, NC – Here is a quick summary of Technology events coming up in in June and July.

CityCamp NC – Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 8:30 AM – Friday, May 31, 2013 at 5:30 PM (EDT) in Raleigh, NC. CityCamp NC, an event to promote citizen participation and government transparency, today announced plans to host the now state-focused event that brings together citizens, government and businesses in order to ignite innovation focused on improving quality of life through technology. National Day of Civic Hacking, Raleigh – Saturday June 1, 2013. 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (EDT) in Raleigh, NC. Following two days of collaboration at CityCamp North Carolina and a successful start to NC Datapalooza in April, citizens and developers are invited to join in the local event on Saturday, June 1 celebrating a nationwide movement for more open government and finding new ways to use open data.

The Hack For Food – Saturday June 1, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM (EDT) in Asheville, NC. Join other food enthusiasts, designers, coders, data-junkies, and citizens for the first ever Hack for Food to develop innovative solutions for local food systems, spurring local economic development and making food systems environmentally sustainable and socially just. Not in Triangle, but a worthy cause just a short road-trip away.

OPF Hackathon – June 3-5, 2013 in Chapel Hill, NC. This Hackathon is only for people serious about digital forensics. This OPF Hackathon will provide participants with a chance to learn about what digital forensics has to offer to the digital preservation community by getting hands on with data, tools and new techniques.

PARADOXOS – June 6-7, 2013, Durham, NC. PARADOXOS is a two-day festival celebrating the power of ideas, collaboration, and what’s to come. PARADOXOS is comprised of a series of events around Durham’s center.

Maker Faire North Carolina – Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (EDT) in Raleigh, NC. Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Triangle Startup Weekend, Friday, July 12, 2013 at 6:00 PM – Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 9:00 PM (EDT) in Durham, NC. Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations.

RTP 180°: Movie Night in the Triangle – July 23, 2013 in RTP, NC. The Research Triangle Park gathered together 300+ of the region’s marketers for its May RTP 180° event. There, it threw the gauntlet to all North Carolina’s best: come up with the best 2-3 minute video short. A panel of elite judges will review the best of the best in front of a live audience. Whomsoever wins will go on to achieve fame, fortune, and prizes of epic proportion.
