Wine Shop Rocks Their Winetasting
Story and photos by Lindsey Chester.
Cary, NC – We stayed in town over the Holiday weekend, and I’m glad we did. Saturday, May 25, I stopped by Sip…A Wine Store for one of the season’s first great summer parking lot parties.
Wine Shop Rocks Their Winetasting
For the summer of 2013, Sip owner April Schlanger has planned a series of themed wine and beer tastings that is part wine bar, food truck rodeo and concert rolled into one.
The event got started about 4:00 pm, I arrived at 5 and things were in full swing. The bar at the back of the store was lined up with a series of 4 wines from Tryon Distributors and several beers from Bells Brewery. The cost of sampling: $5 per person.
The servings were generous and the company was lively. Saturday’s weather had warmed up and turned sunny.
Food & Music
Outside a tent was set up where folks were sipping and eating Bar B Q plates from the Humble Pig food truck stationed next door. Kyle Scobie was playing a set on his acoustic guitar. He played some originals and the crowd was digging him. Around 6:00, the second act, Finally Friday arrived and began their set to the packed audience.
The wines ranged from a crisp Sauvignon Blanc to start, switching to a Rose, then a light Pinot Noir, and lastly to a Merlot. I tried two of the beers as well. More of a sip, than a glass, which was just right at the start of the holiday weekend!
If you are looking for something to do on a summer Saturday afternoon (say on date night as a warm up to a dinner out), check out Sip’s schedule for the net “Wine, Beer and Music Fest”. For $5 you can have a whole lot of fun, and maybe bring home a bottle or two of wine or beer you’ve checked out and serve that night with friends.

Fantastic place! Love, Love, LOVE SIP…
Recently got a wine that hails from the Loire Valley of France, made with the Gamay grape and I’m going back for more! April runs a great place here and if you’ve not been GO, and GO NOW! :-) You’re missing out if you haven’t been to a class or party at this place.
