Town of Cary Shred Event
Cary, NC – How many of you have boxes of old credit card receipts, tax returns and financial statements hidden away in boxes up in your attic? Are you afraid to throw documents away lest someone steals your identity? Lack a paper shredder or the time to sit shredding each document one by one from the massive pile? Do you even know WHAT to shred?
Town of Cary to the rescue!
Paper Shred Event for Everyone
As part of America Recycles Day, the town is hosting a free public paper shredding event where Cary citizens can drop off their old paper documents to be safely shredded and recycled.
The “Shred It” event is Saturday November 16, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at the Garmon Operations Center, 400 James Jackson Ave.
What to Bring
Cary citizens can bring up to three boxes of paper documents for secure shredding or recycle already shredded paper. Box or bag up to and swing by with the paper in bins or storage boxes ready to go. Make sure all paperclips, and clamps are removed from the documents. Citizens drive through the traffic pattern to drop off their boxes of sensitive documents for shredding.
“We’re excited to offer a convenient and affordable way to shred confidential documents while recycling items that are not accepted in our curbside program,” said Sarah Justice, Conservation Specialist/Volunteer Coordinator for the Town of Cary. Justice added that no commercial interests will be accepted.
This is the fourth such event that the town has hosted. This event is for Cary residents only, no commercial interests are permitted (just another benefit to being a Cary resident!)
The Town has a 40% annual waste diversion goal and events such as this help meet the town meet this goal. Last year, 643 citizens brought over 32,750 pounds of paper for shredding and recycling. By participating in our America Recycles Day paper shred, citizens can have sensitive documents shred for free and then recycled so landfill space is saved and materials are reused.
