Herbfest Returns for 5th Year
Cary, NC — Herbfest, the Friends of Page-Walker Hotel’s 5th annual celebration of all things “garden” will spring to life on May 3, 2014 from 9am – 3:00pm at Page-Walker in Cary.

Herbfest offers something for everyone – from the most seasoned gardeners to those interested in learning more about gardening topics.
The purpose of Herbfest is to hold a free event for our community and also experience the beautiful herb garden here that the organization maintains”, said Pat Fish, president of the The Friends of Page-Walker Hotel. “It also brings people to our downtown.”
What to Expect
Herbfest is always timed for the first Saturday in May, just before Mother’s Day (hint, hint).
Many vendors will be selling gardening items, or things related to the garden and nature, perfect Spring gifts for Mom.
Booths this year include Cottage Lane Kitchen with pepper relishes, Honeysuckle Farms selling herb plants, Susan’s Garden with pressed flower art, Redman Pottery with clay items, Elemental Alchemy with herbal skin creams, Shugi Handcrafts with dyed textiles and more.
For the first time, the Wake County Extension Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer advice and answer any questions related to gardening in Wake County. Come armed to ask about soils, what to plant and your pest problems.
Food will be available for purchase from the soon-to-open Jones Cafe, and owner Tammy Callaway will be onsite.
Silent Auction
Last year, the Friends organized a silent auction as part of Herbfest and it was declared a “smashing success”. Many of these items are garden-related like birdhouses, tools, planters, bird feeders, terrariums and yard art.
Bidders do not need to be present when bidding closes and will be contacted if they win to collect and pay for their purchases later.
Butterfly Release
Always anticipated by children who attend are the two scheduled butterfly releases. Butterfly cocoons are purchased in advance by the Friends and timed to be ready to fly on Herbfest. Time your visit to coincide with either release at 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
Once again, Herbfest promises to be a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the coming of Spring and enjoy the company of our friends and neighbors.
