Weekend: Tar Heel Tales, Tree Lighting, and Concerts Galore!

Cary, NC — With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the CaryCitizen Calendar isn’t quite as full as usual. Still, there are a few great events this weekend in Cary that are not to be missed, including a Christmas tree lighting and several concerts–such as Ellis Paul’s Cary debut!

Six original short plays and music performances will be at The Cary Theater this weekend on both Friday (7:30 pm) and Saturday (2 and 7:30 pm). Tickets for these Tar Heel Tales are $15 and are available for purchase through etix.

Don’t miss the Waverly Place Tree Lighting at 6 pm on Friday. Be sure to check out CaryCitizen’s 2014 Holiday Event Guide for a complete list of holiday happenings in Cary.

There will also be a Neuse Riverkeeper Benefit Concert at Rally Point Sport Grill from 8-10 pm. The concert, featuring the acclaimed Pierce Pettis, is free, but anyone who makes a donation will be entered into a raffle drawing.

The Triangle Youth String Orchestras will be holding a children’s concert from 3-4 pm at the Cary Arts Center. Learn about string orchestra music by seeing young people talk about and play the music they love.

The Cary Invasion, Cary’s minor league basketball team, will be playing against the Raleigh Revolt at Herb Young Community Center from 7-9 pm on Saturday. Gates open at 6 pm, and tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Ellis Paulfamous folk singer/songwriter, will be performing at the Cary Arts Center from 8-9 pm. Don’t forget to also check out his Songwriting Workshop, held before the show at 1 pm. Tickets for both events can be purchased online.

Across the Triangle

Educational fun awaits at the 19th Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration, held on Saturday from 11 am-4 pm at the NC Museum of History in Raleigh. There will be artists, dancers, performers, crafts, activities, and more–all free.

The museum is also opening a new exhibit called Starring North Carolina! The exhibit, which opens on Saturday, is the first major exhibition about North Carolina’s role in the film industry.

A Dark & Mysterious Ghost Walk will take place in Durham from 7:30-9 pm on Saturday. The family-friendly 1.5 mile walking tour is for adults and children 8+, and it will combine local ghost stories, folklore, and local history at seven different ghost and paranormal sites. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids.
