Plants, Art & Butterflies: Photos from Herbfest
Cary, NC — We were certainly due for some beautiful weather after all the rain this past week, and Saturday, May 2, 2015 was the perfect day for Herbfest at the Page-Walker.
Herbfest 2015
This year was the 6th year for the Friends of Page-Walker to host this event on the grounds of the former Page-Walker Hotel. There is plenty of garden inspiration all around, as the Friends have a well established herb and perennial garden of plants that require very little care. Everything was in full bloom on Saturday!
Plants, Art & Butterflies
Every year, I head over to Herbfest in search of tender annual herbs to add to my garden. The event is timed perfectly to take advantage of spring rains and warm soil. This year, I picked up a Greek Columnar Basil, four Basil Genovese seedlings, a Fennel plant and two types of Parsley (flat and curly). I like herbs! Everything was planted in my garden later that day.
But, you don’t need to be an avid gardener to have fun at Herbfest. The event has expanded in the last few years to include copper yard art, some local potters, a woman who makes printed note cards from plants she preserves in a press, soaps, lotions and plenty of gift ideas. The annual event is timed perfectly to fall about a week before Mother’s Day.
Brent Miller even dressed up a a butterfly lady to release butterflies into the gardens.
