Dog Days of June: This Saturday in Cary

Cary, NC — Simply saying that I’m a dog-lover is an understatement. That’s why I marked my calendar for June 6, 2015 months ago. This Saturday, Bond Park will be packed with dogs of all shapes and sizes for Cary’s annual Dog Days of June event (or a dog-lover’s dream).

Summer Fun for Healthy Dogs

Dog Days of June is a great way to get outside to meet fellow dogs and dog-owners.

I’ll be there to stroll around, meet new canine friends and take pictures, but there’s much more to the event than that. Vendors and local dog rescue groups will be there to meet patrons and to present dogs for adoption. The Cary Teen Council will be there to wash dogs ($5-$10, depending on dog’s size), rabies vaccines, microchipping clinics and veterinarians will be on site (cats are welcome) and a disc competition will begin at 10 am.

Dogs of all sizes and abilities can perform in the competition (no previous experience is necessary). All your dog needs is high-energy and motivation to catch a disc. Registration for the competition starts at 9:30 am; call 919-469-4100 for more information about competing.

All dogs not competing in the competition should be on a leash during the event.

50 Rescue Groups & Vendors

I contacted Allison Paris of Second Chance Pet Adoptions to find out what rescue groups and pet vendors will be present at Dog Days of June. The list is more than 50 groups long and includes rescue societies, pet services, healthcare providers, crafts, dog treats and more.

Does Anyone Know a Pug?

I’ve called quite the variety of dogs family members in my life, from a 100+ pound golden retriever to a miniature dachshund (or wiener dog). Right now, Lucy, my sweet seven-year-old rescue mix, is my girl. Though I’ve always had a family dog, I am planning to adopt one of my own (a pug, if I can find one) in the next several months.

To foster my search for a new companion, I’m looking forward to talking with local rescue groups and meeting Cary neighbors who share my love of dogs at Dog Days of June. Who knows? Maybe I’ll run into a pug owner or a pug rescue at the event to learn a little more about them.
