Pig Pickin’ in the Park: June 6 in Cary

Pig Pickin

Cary, NC — The Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club will host their 29th annual Pig Pickin’ at Bond Park in Cary on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 4:30 pm-7 pm.

Pig Pickin’ in the Park

Becca Smith, the Cary-Kildaire Rotary President, told us about the event’s mission:

We come together to serve others, both in our community and around the world. This is our major fundraising event of the year, and 100% of the proceeds go back into the community through either scholarships or humanitarian projects.

The Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club gives out about 10-15 scholarships a year that total over $20,000. Humanitarian projects range from local groups like Read and Feed, the Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Home to overseas projects that provide water and sanitation to other countries. In the past, the club provided clean drinking water and toilets to students at schools in India.

Food, Clowns & Bluegrass

The Pig Pickin’ in the Park is held at the senior center in Bond Park on High House Road in Cary.

Guests can expect tons of food, door prizes, clowns, face-painting, balloon art and mascot photos for the kids, corn hole and games outside in the courtyard, a bluegrass band, a $1 bake sale and a silent auction featuring gift cards, spa treatments, trackout camps, local art and more.

Fresh, Eastern-style BBQ will be cooked on-site by White Swan, and pig pickin’-goers can choose to dine-in, get their food to-go or to even use a drive-thru service. “We typically have 700-800 people come and go at the event during its three and a half hours,” Becca said.

The event is easy to attend, since $9 tickets for adults and $6 tickets for kids are sold at the door. The family-friendly fun is for a great cause, too, so invite as many people as you can.

Becca summarized the event by saying:

Given the blessed area in which we live, families have many options to choose from when it comes to weekend entertainment. I hope that our community will see the value and the fun in the Pig Pickin’ in the Park! Come enjoy some delicious food, have fun, make some new friends and support student education and worthy projects all at the same time!  We look forward to seeing you there!

What a fantastic event for an extraordinary cause that serves the whole Cary Community. Scholarships and humanitarian projects are an exceptional way to give back both to our youth and to the disadvantaged whether locally or internationally. Rotarians everywhere should take pride in these accomplishments and strive for even more “Service Above Self”.
