Cary, NC — We get a lot of announcements about graduations. This one, which was sent to us from Newport, Rhode Island, caught our attention.
Cary Man Completes Boatbuilding Program
Rob Sherman, a Cary resident, just graduated from the Boatbuilding & Restoration program at the IYRS School of Technology & Trades in Newport, Rhode Island (formally the International Yacht Restoration School). The Boatbuilding & Restoration program at the IYRS School requires a high level of skill and commitment, and the craftspeople that graduate from the program have received the deepest level of training available.
After completing the intensive two-year program, students are prepared for careers in the fields of wooden boatbuilding, carpentry, yacht repair, furniture restoration and advanced joinery.

The Craft of Boatbuilding
Sherman successfully completed the full-time Boatbuilding & Restoration program, which is considered a leader in educating ultra-talented craftspeople.
Upon completion of the program, students are proficient in woodworking processes and techniques such as measuring, drafting, lofting, steam-bending, planking, spar making, advanced joinery, budgeting, project management, scheduling and client contracting.
About IYRS
IYRS School of Technology and Trades has been graduating students to contribute to the local and national economy for over 20 years.
Currently, IYRS has three accredited programs and regularly collaborates with post-secondary schools of architecture, preservation, industrial design and engineering through short-term classes, including recently with MIT, Harvard, RISD, Roger Williams and others.
