Editor’s Journal: Wind Down Wednesdays

Editor’s Note: The weekly editor’s journal is a collection of photos, thoughts and events from last week that didn’t make it into stories of their own.

Cary, NC — We visited Waverly Place last week for “Wind Down Wednesday,” a weekly live music series that takes place on the promenade, and were shocked at just how crowded it was.

Wind Down Wednesdays at Waverly Place

A cozy Chinese restaurant, Amazing Glaze and lots of blue…from my 24 years of living in or near Cary, these are just some of the things I remember about the old Waverly Place. I also remember when the businesses started to dwindle–at one point, when I was in high school, the shopping center was so deserted that my friend even filmed his own music video there.

While I remember what Waverly Place used to be, I’m happy to see it thriving more than ever before. The crowd that shows up weekly for Wind Down Wednesdays, a free concert series, is just one example of how popular Waverly Place has become.

We heard that, this summer, record numbers of 4,000-5,000 attendees have showed up for the weekly concerts–even in 100 degree heat. Waverly Place is currently in its fourth season of hosting Wind Down Wednesdays. You can catch two more concerts this season.

There’s always dancing, and, if attendees are hungry, they can enjoy dining outdoors at Waverly Place restaurants like Red Hot & Blue or Enrigo Italian Bistro.

Booths with food, wine and beer for sale are also set up. There, we spotted two Cary celebrities.
