2015 NC State Fair: Deals, Food & More

Raleigh, NC — The North Carolina State Fair starts this Thursday, October 15, 2015. We rounded up a few tips to help you save money and have fun this year. 

Buy Tickets Early to Save Money

The 2015 NC State Fair runs from Thursday, October 15 – Sunday, October 25 this year. If you buy your tickets online on or before October 15, you’ll save $2 per ticket.

If you plan to ride rides, buy those before October 15, too, to save $8 on a sheet of 18 tickets.

Deals & Discounts

Packages like family four-packs and mega and mini passes (for multi-day admission) and information about military discounts are all available online, too.

You’ll find deals for groups, tickets for shows and more.

Depending on which day you go to the fair, you could get the following perks:

  • Thursday, October 15 – Preview Day (discount fair tickets at the gate)
  • Friday, October 16 – Friday Frenzy (students receive 50% discount with school ID)

Free Admission for Lunch

Did you know you can have lunch at the fair without paying admission?

Visit Gate 9 (off Trinity Road) or Gate 1 (off Hillsborough Street) after 11:30 am on weekdays to purchase a lunch card for $10 (cash only). Buy your lunch from your favorite food vendor, then return your lunch card by 1:30 pm for a full $10 refund.

Food vendors take cash. ATMs are available at the fairgrounds.

New Food This Year

Speaking of lunch, I looked up “what’s new” at the NC State Fair this year only to find a list of crazy foods. Some of the items included deep-fried Pop Tarts, a platter of breakfast-shaped gummies, a burger with mac & cheese, a deep-fried Klondike Bar, sour ice cream and more.

What’s Your Favorite Part of the Fair?

At the fair, I always take a stroll through the garden show, take a nighttime ride on the Ferris wheel and shop at the folk festival. My food of choice? Fried Oreos.
