Weekend: Live Music, Lego Palooza & Food Trucks

Cary, NC — After being cooped up inside during last weekend’s ice storm, the area is bursting with fun events to get you out of the house this week. On the calendar, we found a lot of live music and open houses in Cary, but we also found a food truck rodeo, a lego palooza and more outside of Cary’s limits. Check it out.

The Morrisville Chamber of Commerce starts their first Coffee & Connections of the new year at 7:30 am on Thursday morning. Talk about your business and meet other small business owners at this networking-focused session.

Weekend

The Umstead Hotel will kick-off their Umstead Uncorked wine tasting series on Thursday evening at 6 pm. This is a reoccurring series of lively discussions and tastings of favorite wines from around the world.

West Regional Library in Cary will host a Downton Abbey Tea Party from 10:30 am – noon featuring trivia and fun facts about the show, tea and light refreshments will be served.

During Chatham Hill Winery’s Wine Away Friday event this Friday evening, guests can enjoy a free wine tasting in addition to normal flights and specials. The Brachi Roll food truck will be there to serve food until 10 pm, too.

This week, for Live Music Fridays at Fortnight Brewery, see duo Anthony & Mariah for no cover. The Big Johns Wings and Things food truck on site, too. The music starts at 7 pm.

It’s Final Friday in downtown Cary, and what’s on the calendar this month? Visit Studio 180 Salon, the Cary Gallery of Artists and the Village Art Circle gallery between 6-9 pm for refreshments and special artist receptions. And don’t forget about the Waverly Artists Group in Waverly Place (just a drive down the road).

Vom Fass, an oils, vinegar and spices store in Waverly Place, celebrates two years of business with a Birthday Party Open House on Saturday from 10 am – 6 pm. There will be live demos, refreshments and specials throughout the day.

Students from School of Rock Cary proudly present The Wall by Pink Floyd at 2:30 pm at The Cary Theater. The mother of all concept albums, The Wall contains some of the most iconic songs in rock history. Tickets are $8-$10.

Our Cary Invasion basketball team will take on Charlotte at 7 pm in Herb Young in downtown Cary.

The Whisky Runners will play at 10 pm at Doherty’s in Cary – there’s no cover for this show.

Across the Triangle

Kids and adults will both enjoy Astronomy Days, a two-day event at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh. On Saturday from 9 am- 5 pm and on Sunday from noon – 5 pm, both new and seasoned astronomy-buffs will get unique insight into the science of celestial objects. This event is free.

LEGO-palooza is a free, two-day event at the Morehead Planetarioum in Chapel Hill. On Saturday from 11 am – 4 pm and on Sunday from 1 pm – 4 pm, planetarium guests can gaze upon amazing displays of unique LEGO scenes, from settlements in outer space to hometowns throughout America (including forts, amusement parks, city landmarks and more).

Durham’s Winter Food Truck Rodeo is on Sunday in Durham Central Park from noon – 4 pm. It was supposed to occur last weekend but was rescheduled due to the snow! There will be 50+ food trucks and local craft beer and multiple bands.
