Weekend Events: Spring Daze, Arts and Lots of Wine
Cary, NC – Spring Daze 2016 is set for this Saturday in Bond Park, but you can party from Thursday to Sunday with more than two dozen events on the CaryCitizen Calendar.

Live at Lunch is still going strong, with the calming jazz stylings of the George Knott Duo playing for free outside of the Ivey Ellington House, near Ashworth Village. And the show starts at 11:30 AM so you may be able to beat the bad weather.
Umstead Uncorked Wine Tasting is back at the Umstead Hotel and Spa. Gather at the Umstead Fireplace Lounge for a one-hour class with sommelier Hai Tran to taste wines from around the world and even some local beers. The class starts at 6 PM but reservations are required by calling 919-447-4050.
The Fine Arts League of Cary is having its monthly meeting. At the meeting artists and those interested in the arts will be able to learn about events or have their craft nurtured. Attendance is open to the public with the meeting at the Cary Arts Center from 7:30 to 9 PM.

Final Friday Wine Tasting and Food Truck is celebrating the final Friday of the month, not the final event ever, thankfully. There will be tastings of new wines and food from the Lost Boys food truck. The event is at the Chatham Wine Market from 5 to 9 PM.
Remnants of Great Spirit Art Collection is an exhibit by local artist Lyudmila Tomova, showing off her watercolors inspired by Cherokee and Haliwa-Saponi culture. The exhibit will also feature a demonstration of Tomova’s watercolor technique. It is at the Village Art Circle from 6 to 9 PM.
The Friday night music scene in Cary starts with the Lounge Doctors from 5-8 PM at Abbey Road. Then, hop on over to The Cary Theater for Buddy Mondlock and Dana Cooper.

Cary Downtown Farmers’ Market and Music will be open in the the lawn of the Ivey Ellington House next to Ashworth Village from 8 AM to 12:30 PM. Farmers will have their goods out for people to buy and shoppers will be serenaded by Rip the Calico, a fast-paced Celtic quartet.
More than 180 local artists will be at Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival out at Bond Park this Saturday. Open from 9 AM to 5 PM, there will also be food and live entertainment on four separate stages.
DJ Dance Party is the last Saturday of every month at Corner Tavern and Grill. From 9 PM to midnight, you and your friends can come dance at this themed party.

The Children’s Flight of Hope Tennis Tournament will be going on at the MacGregor Downs Country Club. From noon to 4 PM, those interested can compete, with a Wheels Up party later that night. Proceeds from registration go to Children’s Flight of Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides air transportation for children to access specialized medical care. To register, call 919-466-8593.
The Cary Theater will be showing The Great Debaters. Starring Denzel Washington, the film follows a team of black college students in a debate tournament during the Jim Crow era. The film starts at 2 PM. There will also be a showing on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
The Youth String Orchestra Children’s Concert will give audience members a chance to not only hear children perform but also hear them discuss the music and their passion for it. The show starts at 3 PM at the Cary Arts Center.

Across the Triangle
Brewgaloo is Raleigh’s craft beer festival. With a block party on Friday and more events on Saturday and more than 100 breweries between the two days, beer lovers have, to paraphrase Kierkegaard, the dizziness of freedom.
Popular country/folk singer Jason Isbell will be playing in Downtown Raleigh at the Walnut Creek Amphitheatre this Saturday, April 30. Isbell will be playing with band Widespread Panic. Doors open at 6 PM.
The Carolina Ballet will be performing the world premiere of their adaptation of “MacBeth” in honor of Shakespeare’s 400th death anniversary. The Carolina Ballet is the Triangle’s only professional ballet company and will be performing Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at 8 PM and 2 PM respectively.
(and Beyoncé is coming to the Triangle on Tuesday, May 3. Not the weekend but we couldn’t leave her out)
