Weekend Events: SpringFest, Races and More
Cary, NC – This weekend may have a Friday the 13th, but as long as you don’t cross any black cats or duck under any ladders, there’s plenty of fun to be had.

Wines Around The World, put on by the Morrisville Rotary Club, is a chance to eat cheese and drink international wine, all at the RDU International Airport. The event, starting at 6 PM, will also have live music from Chris Overstreet and a variety of gift certificates available take home.
Gildan Esprit de She is a 5K/10K women’s race starting at Koka Booth Amphitheater. Participants will start out at a Life Time marketplace with warm-up Zumba at 4:30 PM and the actual race at 7 PM, followed by live music, a beauty bar and champagne for participants.
Live in the District has live music every Thursday this Spring, starting at 6 PM at Park West Village. This week’s artist is the Patrick Rock Band and the show is free. There will also be activities for kids available, although kids also generally enjoy rock and roll.

The Annandale Center Scottish dance studio is holding a free dance every second Friday of the month. Come down at 4 PM to see authentic Scottish dancing and even learn a little too.
Wine Away Friday at the Chatham Hill Winery will have live music, with wine for tasting or full bottles and glasses, as well as beer from Fortnight. There is seating outside or on their deck, going until 10 PM.
The Cary Youth Theater is putting on a production of “Lyle the Crocodile.” Perfect for kids, it’s a story about a crocodile who teaches others not to judge and how to get along with your neighbors, even if they are a crocodile. The show runs from Friday to Sunday at the Cary Arts Center.

The Purple Cloth 5K is a chance for runners to find a way to use their passion to help others. The race proceeds will go to Dorcas Ministries, which is in the process of opening a free health clinic. There will also be live music, raffles and more, all starting at 8 AM at Bond Park.
The Spring PineCone Concert is a free bluegrass concert, put on in collaboration between the Town of Cary and PineCone. The show starts at 5 PM at the Sertoma Amphitheatre at Bond Park.
SpringFest is a large event with too much going on to list it all here. But to be brief: all over downtown Morrisville, there will be midway games, food trucks, live music and rides. Entry is free but rides and food trucks are not. There are also shuttles available for parking, with festivities going from 4 to 9 PM.

Public Safety Day is an educational opportunity for Cary residents to learn about safety and awareness, as well as interact with community emergency personnel. Police, firefighters and others will gather on West Chatham Street, between Academy Street and Harrison Avenue, to talk with community members, all starting at noon.
Community Chain Reaction is a live demonstration of Rube Goldberg machines designed with the Forge Initiative. The event starts at 1:30 PM at the Herb Young Community Center. It is free to the public but a donation is requested. Apologies to disappointed Bill Cullen fans.
Masters of Disaster is all this weekend at the Cary Theater. Two disaster movies will play each day with only one movie The Towering Inferno playing Sunday at 2 PM. Check out the Cary Theater website to see the rest of the weekend’s disaster movies.

Across the Triangle
WWE Live is coming to Raleigh’s PNC Arena this Saturday, May 14 2016. See the top superstars in WWE compete, including the first Raleigh match with Wrestling Observer’s 2015 Wrestler of the Year AJ Styles since joining WWE. Styles will compete against Chris Jericho, who is back because after Bray Wyatt cost Roman Reigns the victory at Money in the Bank…you know what, it’s a long story.
Trampled by Turtles will be playing at Raleigh’s Red Hat Amphitheatre Saturday, May 14 2016. One of the band’s opening acts, Dr. Bacon, is a local band that won the “Last Band Standing” competition. The concert, which will also feature band The Devil Makes Three, will donate proceeds to Band Together NC.
Durham School of the Arts Showcase is this Friday, May 13 2016, with students performing both as solo acts and as a collective chorus at the school’s Weaver Auditorium. See what the school has worked on developing this past year. Also in Durham, Back Porch Music on the Lawn returns to American Tobacco on Thursday, May 11, 2016.
