Weekend Events: Lazy Daze, Art Loop and More
Cary, NC – There are a lot of exciting events going on around Cary this weekend and we have set up a brief and easy guide for you to navigate the calendar to plan your weekend.

Discovering Das Rheingold is a free class at the West Regional Library to understand the classic Wagner opera. General director of the NC Opera, Eric Mitchko, will talk about the opera’s significance as well as its leitmotifs and other themes. The NC Opera will be presenting Das Rheingold Friday, September 16 and Sunday, September 18, 2016.
Fine Arts League of Cary meets every month at the Cary Arts Center. Starting at 7:30 PM, this meeting nurtures and promotes the interests and activities of Cary area artists and those interested in the arts.
Cary’s Sister City, Markham, Ontario, is bringing its band to come and play with the Cary Town Band. It is at the Cary Arts Center at 8 PM. Markham and its Town Band will hold another joint concert at Lazy Daze.

The Annual Senior Art Exhibition is in its 13th year. Cary seniors, in cooperation with the Fine Arts League of Cary, will be showing off their works of art. The reception starts at 3 PM at the Cary Senior Center and the art will be up until Friday, September 23, 2016.
There is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics at the Triangle Rock Club location in Raleigh. The Special Olympics office is located right in town. Register for this rock climbing event.
Tom Teachout is a talented local guitar player who will be performing at Abbey Road on 1195 W Chatham Street. The show starts at 5 PM and Tom will be accompanied by local saxophonist Josh Duncan.
Final Friday Art Loop is all over Cary this Friday, showing off the works of local artists with receptions where people can meet the artists. You can find a full list of venues and galleries on the Art Loop website.

Lazy Daze is all this Saturday and Sunday, with the first ever two day event to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. Lazy Daze is closer to Cary Town Hall this year, from 9 AM to 6 PM on Saturday and 12:30 to 5 PM on Sunday.
Peachy Keen Anniversary Event is a celebration of the store’s fourth year, with big sales at 250 Grande Heights Drive. There will also be a food truck and sangria. The event is from noon to 5 PM.
Acoustic Nights in the District is free live music on the lawn outside of the Stone Theater in the Park West Village. This weekend, you can hear Tony Barnes on Friday and Britton Buchanan on Saturday, both at 6 PM.

The Herbert C. Young Ribbon-Cutting is an event to commemorate the 25th year of Cary’s community center. There will be a re-dedication at Herb Young, as well as a ribbon-cutting. Get there at 12:30 PM so you can also get some free refreshments.
It’s the Second Day of Lazy Daze. For the first time, Lazy Daze is so nice it’s happening twice so head out to downtown Cary for another fun day of food, beer, crafts and music.

Around the Triangle
David Liebe Hart, ventriloquist and singer extraordinaire, is performing this Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Pour House Music Hall in Downtown Raleigh. Get there at 9 PM for a performance like no other.
The Downtown Raleigh Improv Festival is going on all weekend at ComedyWorx in Raleigh. There are shows at 8 and 10 PM each night, all to benefit the USO of North Carolina.
The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke is holding a free, live event for people to come out and hear fellow North Carolinians tell their stories. The theme of this Friday, August 26, 2016 show is “Stories of Labor and Leisure,” starting at 8 PM at 1317 W Pettigrew St. in Durham.
