Weekend Events: Local Music, New Park and More
Cary, NC – Last weekend’s tropical storm ended up complicating people’s plans but luckily, this weekend is free and clear so check out the things to do around town.

Live At Lunch is starting back up, with free, live music outdoors from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Hear local musicians play at the Fidelity Plaza in the heart of Downtown Cary.
The Cary Town Council is holding one of their regular meetings. If you have never stopped by before, it may be a good idea to get a look at how the town runs. The meeting starts at 6:30 PM at Cary Town Hall.
The weekend kicks off with movies at the Cary Theater. At 7 PM, you can see The Congressman, about a disillusioned U.S. representative who ends up finding a cause in his district he believes in. And at 9 PM, it’s The Tenth Man, about a man who returns to his hometown with a newfound passion for his abandoned culture.

The Veterans Benefits Action Center starts this Friday. If you or a relative is a military veteran and have questions about your medical benefits, go to the Herb Young Center from 9 AM to 10 PM on Friday and 9 AM to 6 PM on Saturday.
The Page-Walker Center is holding a discussion with the Sister Cities Association and International Focus to talk about cultural diversity in the Triangle and how different groups can engage with one another. It starts at 7 PM.
Tom Teachout and Karl Mann will be playing at Abbey Road on West Chatham Street. Teachout and Mann are both guitar players with backgrounds in rock and many other genres. The show starts at 9 PM.

The Jack Smith Park is having its official opening ceremony this Saturday morning at 10 AM. Jack Smith Park is located at 9725 Penny Road and it has a unique “sprayground” water fixture. Other community leaders will be there so check it out.
The Carolina RailHawks have been undefeated at home this season and they have a chance to continue that as they take on Ottawa Fury FC. The game starts at 7:30 PM at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The Claire Lynch Trio, led by award-winning country singer Claire Lynch, will be performing at the Cary Arts Center. The show, starting at 8 PM, is presented by Six String.

There are several 9/11 Memorial Events around the area. At 7 AM, there will be a 5K walk/run put on by the Morrisville fire, police and rescue departments. It starts at Morrisville Fire Department Station 1. Then, at 4 PM, there is a Day of Service to construct a raised vegetable garden at Cary’s Fire Station 3. Must be 15 years old or be accompanied by an adult to volunteer. Register with sarah.justice@townofcary.org by 5 PM on Thursday, September 8.
Downtown Food and Flea is a chance to shop for vintage goods, clothes, arts and crafts, and more. There will also be food trucks there. The flea market is open from noon to 4 PM at Ashworth Village.
Middle Creek Community Center is holding an open house about the events and activities it has available. They have fencing, basketball, archery, dance and more and their instructors will be at the community center. It starts at 4 PM.

Around The Triangle
WWE Live comes to the Triangle for the first time since the brand split. See SmackDown-branded starts compete at Cary’s PNC Arena at 7:30 PM on Saturday, September 10, with a triple-threat match between Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles and Dolph Ziggler for the WWE World Championship as well as a singles match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt. Card subject to change.
This weekend is the last opportunity to see Memphis at Raleigh Little Theater. It’s the true story of a black club singer and a white radio DJ who try to change their community through music. Plays every day at 8 PM or 3 PM on Sunday, September 11.
Black Genius Fest is an event aimed at eliminating the academic opportunity gap facing African-American youth, with a celebration of black culture through music, dance, food and science activities. It is at Northgate Park in Durham from 2 to 5 PM on Saturday, September 10.
