Weekend Events: Music, Art, Madagascar and PONY Softball

Lindsey Chester edits the CaryCitizen Calendar of Events.

Cary, NC – As the last weekend of July 2012 burns its way into the history books (it’s going to be another hot one), here are a few weekend events around Cary to help you chill out. As always, more info on the Calendar.

Friday, July 27, 2012

For Friday, we’ll highlight three events this weekend:

CRAICDOWN at Page-Walker – This is a free show at Page-Walker, part of the Starlight Concert Series. Craicdown performs acoustic roots music with a high-energy, rock inspired flare. The band’s repertoire draws from many sources, including the jigs and reels of the Celtic cultures, Brazilian choros, the swing musettes of Paris, American roots, and original compositions. All ages; picnics okay; no alcohol or pets.

Movies by Moonlight / Madagascar 2 – We just love Movies by Moonlight at Booth Amphitheater. Nothing quite beats seeing a flick under the stars, beneath the pines and next to the cooling breeze off the lake. The week’s movie is Madagascar 2. Kids 12 and under are free, $3 for adults. Movies begin around dusk. Bring a picnic!

Cary Art Loop Hosted at Cary Innovation Center – One of the stops on the Cary Art Loop this Friday is going to be at the Cary Innovation Center. The show features Paulette Wright at her opening reception on July 27, 2012 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Cary Innovation Center, 201 West Chatham Street, Suite 204, Cary, North Carolina. Paulette’s show will be up until October 22, 2012. Come meet Paulette and enjoy some refreshments and good music as well.

Also This Weekend

Don’t forget to visit Cary’s Farm Markets this weekend: WWFM in western Cary and Morrisville, DJ’s in southern Cary and Apex and the Downtown Farmers Market on Academy Street. Tomatoes, peaches, peppers and melons will likely be in abundance and at the peak of flavor.

Finally, for those who’ve been asking, A Fifth of Blues will be at The Mojo Room in Danville VA on Friday night. Even though the band is based in Cary, nothing on the schedule locally until the end of August. Sorry about that, people.

Next Week: Cross Currents Festival in Cary

On Monday, July 30, the Cary Cross Currents Festival kicks off with a performance by jazz artist Will Scruggs.

Every day through August 11, Cross Currents brings world-class music, art, food and more to downtown Cary in a festival atmosphere. It’s like Spoleto, only on Academy Street.

The Cross Currents Festival has something for everyone. Check the full schedule to find the shows that ring your bell.
