Dance: “Visions” Returns To Cary Arts Center
Story by Lindsey Chester, photos by Brooke Meyer
Cary, NC- Cary Ballet Conservatory has returned to their holiday favorite theme, “Visions”, which opens this Friday night, Dec 14 2012, at the Cary Art Center .
A Very Cary Christmas
The show, titled “Very Cary Christmas” kicks off with the jazz ensemble, 3D Project, who perform “All Wrapped Up” a brand new show with a Christmas theme. The youngest dancers will take the stage first with “Up on the House”. Its the first of many songs that audiences will recognize. Darra Gasper , artistic director for Jazz at Cary Ballet, wanted to include music the audience would know. Some other tunes include: “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”
Artistic Director Deanna Seay explains that the show is a “great alternative to the more formal full length Nutcracker production in Raleigh. Children in the audience will see kids performing, and they will be able to relate to those dancers on stage.. and maybe envision themselves.”
Santa, the Rockettes and the Nutcracker
The action all takes place around the Christmas tree with presents coming to life and Christmas actually being stolen. But never fear, Santa in his own super hero way will save the day!
Watch for the company’s ode to the Rockettes , in which the older dancers, as reindeer perform the legendary high kicks.
The second part of the show is an abbreviated version of the beloved story of the Nutcracker. Running about 1 hour it is half as long as the full Nutcracker and for many youngsters, probably the perfect length.
Playing on the Big Stage
This is the second year the Company will perform their holiday show at the Cary Arts Center and Deanna added that it is a real treat for the girls to dance in such a wonderful and professional facility.
The companies encompass over 80 dancers, many of whom cross over from the Jazz performance to the ballet. With 4 shows, 2 casts will shift to allow all the company dancers a chance to take part in this Holiday performance with ages ranging from 7- 18.
Tickets are selling out for many events this season at the Cary Arts Center, so we recommend calling for ticket info, to ensure that you do not miss the performance you prefer.
