Cary, NC – In case you haven’t heard the news, Bass Pro Shops is coming to Cary. What you may not have heard: it’s replacing Carolina Pottery in Harrison Square.

Bass Pro Shops

Travelers to South Carolina may be familiar with the only other Bass Pro Shop in the state. You can see it from I-85 going through Concord.

Bass Pro Shops is a hunting, fishing and outdoor superstore, with a unique rustic exterior. The store also specializes in camping gear, boating, birding, archery, golf and outdoor apparel. The new store in Cary will have an extensive boat showroom. From Bass Pro:

Bass Pro Shops’ unique, award-winning, mega-sized outdoor stores are known for combining retail with entertainment, conservation and outdoor education.

The store in Cary is projected to be 105,000 square feet.

Replacing Carolina Pottery

Press releases, quoted widely, said the location was “Harrison Avenue and I-40.”

That area’s pretty well developed. Unless Dr. Goodnight was selling a few acres, it had to be re-development.

CaryCitizen has learned that Bass Pro Shops is going into the current location of Carolina Pottery in Harrison Square at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Weston Parkway. Not too long ago, that same location was a Sam’s Club.

No word on whether the shopping plaza will get a much-needed upgrade. But expect significant construction on the site.

According to company information, the new Cary Bass Pro Shops is slated to open in late 2013 or early 2014.
