About Martha Stearns Marshall

Martha Stearns Marshall was an eighteenth-century North Carolina Separate Baptist preacher, who preached alongside her brother Shubal and her husband, Daniel.  In 1755 Stearns founded a Baptist church at Sandy Creek, which grew from 16 to 606 members within 17 years.

Martha’s preaching and leadership were instrumental in the growth of the church and she was well respected throughout the Sandy Creek association.
