Cary, NC – I love quilting. I really do. And I love downtown Cary. Put the two together and you have magic: Cary Quilting Company.

Quilting Cred

Lest you doubt my quilting cred, I just recently wrote an article for a friend on the Durham-Orange Quilters Guild. Fascinating organization!

I don’t actually quilt, mind you. But I appreciate it as an art form – interesting in detail and to the touch, colorful, folksy and even sometimes useful.

There is no smartphone app for the warm comfort of a quilt.

Cary Quilting Company

Lo and behold, a new quilting shop has opened in Downtown Cary. Cary Quilting Company recently moved into 82-year-old historic home at 226 E. Chatham Street.

The house had previously been home to Etc. Crafts, but had been vacant for more than two years before Cary Quilting Company moved in.

The new retail shop offers quilting fabrics, patterns, and notions.  They also offer quilting classes for all abilities and custom quilts through Patchwork Memories, a related company.  The Patchwork Memories staff specializes in creating quilts from t-shirts and other clothing.

From Cary Quilting Company:

Founder and president, Julianne Walther, has been quilting professionally since the founding of Patchwork Memories, Inc. in 2005, has been quilting since the mid 1990’s, and has been sewing since childhood. She is an active member of the Capital Quilters Guild in Raleigh, NC, and also belongs to the Piecemeal Quilters Bee. She has created thousands of quilts, including several each year for charities through the Guild.

Photographer, producer, publisher, musician, scavenger hunt guy and now quilts too! Hal, is there anything you can’t do? ;-)

Seriously, thanks for the story. In addition to this great new business, the building that it’s in has an interesting history of its own.
