Diplomacy Starts at Home

Cary, NC – How much do you know about the different cultures that call Cary home?  Cary’s Sister Cities Association aims to bring cultures together at their fifth annual Citizen Diplomacy Dinner this Thursday.

In an era of increasing globalization, more and more people develop their most lasting impressions of another culture through face-to-face, personal encounters. In an effort to engage and inform citizens of Cary and the Triangle about the significant role of this form of citizen diplomacy, the Sister Cities Association of Cary  is hosting their Citizen Diplomacy Dinner on Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 PM at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, in downtown Cary.

The theme of this year’s program is “Building Cultural Bridges” and will offer guests an engaging program designed to encourage community dialogue about Cary’s cultural diversity and ways citizens can become involved.  Featured Speakers are Jean Davis, Director for International Trade at the North Carolina Department of Commerce, M. Heath Clayton, international exchange photographer, and Joe Mosnier, Executive Director of the International Affairs Council; all are passionate supporters of global engagement and citizen diplomacy.

“Our goal is to help citizens of Cary and the Triangle understand the importance of getting to know our neighbors and their cultures on a more personal level,” said Barbara Shepard, President of the Sister Cities Association of Cary. “The more you get to know the people who make up Cary’s many cultures, the more you understand how similar we all are.”
