Cary, NC – National Train Day returns to Cary’s Amtrak Station on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Mark your calendars.
Cary Train Day 2013
As reported in the Editor’s Journal a couple of weeks ago, the celebration kicks off with the arrival of the Amtrak Carolinian at 10:02 AM. There will be food, exhibits, games for kids, the Cary Town Band, remarks from elected officials and perhaps a downtown tram. This year, we may see a train ride at the festivities. The fun continues all morning and into the afternoon.
Also on Train Day, from 12-7 PM, the south end of Academy Street will come alive with the 9th Annual Ritmo Latino festival. In a boost to downtown Cary, Amtrak is offering $5 kids’ tickets from anywhere in North Carolina to Cary on Train Day.

It needs to be stated that the amazing attendance of National Train Day in Cary last year was a disruption to the Amtrak marketing of this event. How many people attended National Train Day in the “major markets”? This story needs to be told…
Be sure to visit the Page-Walker Arts & History Center (in addition to the depot and other places) on Train Day! The Friends of the Page-Walker and Town of Cary Staff will greet you at the Page-Walker for additional festivities. After all, the Page-Walker started as a railroad hotel!
I hope to see lots of folks in downtown Cary on Train Day!
