Theater: Project Vox Open Monologues April 18

Cary, NC- Project Vox is back with a new edition of the Vagina Monologues a production they produce each year as they raise money to fight domestic violence. This year with a new cast, director Connie De Grazia and producer Amy Simms have moved from the Cary Arts Center to the Page-Walker Arts and History Center and opens Thursday, April 18,2013.

Using Humor to Look at Modern Women

The Vagina Monologues is a collection monologues (Although some pieces are acted with several actors on stage at once) that explore what it means to be a woman in modern society. They start with the very essence of what makes a woman a woman- her vagina and they take an unflinching look at what most people prefer not to admit even exists. All with a dose of good natured humor.

The point here is to de-mystify what it is to be a woman. The cast is comprised only of women, although the sound and tech staff are a couple of guys with a sensitive side. Some of the monologues deal with relationships, some with women’s issues, and others domestic violence, a cause that is central to Project Vox.

Project Vox was founded to change the public’s awareness of and response to domestic violence through outreach, prevention, and education. The group accepts doantions, and produces this show annually to raise funds as well as awareness for their mission.

The show will make you laugh and think. And who couldn’t use a little of both?
