Cary, NCLuke Gray, a Troop 213 Boy Scout, delivered 2,537 pounds of donated groceries to the Dorcas Food Pantry in early June.

Luke organized the drive for his Eagle Scout project and selected the Dorcas Food Pantry because he has been impressed by its service to the community. He set up donation tables at several area Harris Teeter stores in Cary and asked for donations. Shoppers were very generous and numerous individuals told him that they were Eagle Scouts and wanted to support a fellow Scout.

The staff and volunteers at the Dorcas Pantry were very grateful. Outreach Director Jill Straight said, “This donation will help keep our pantry shelves stocked during a very critical time; summer, when kids are home from school and food demand spikes.”

According to Straight, the Dorcas Food Pantry served over 3,000 neighbors in need of emergency food last year and demand is up 35% in 2013.

Dorcas Ministries accepts a variety of donations, however, non-perishable food items are in great demand for June, July and August.
