Mission Post: A Place for Non-Profits

Durham, NC — Mission Post, recently opened in the American Tobacco District in downtown Durham, unites two powerful and current ideas: co-working and non-profits.

Mission Post Opens in Durham

American Tobacco already had a big footprint in the burgeoning field of co-working with American Underground. Now, with Mission Post, they’ve extended that concept to non-profits.

“The MissionPost is a center for non-profits located at American Tobacco in Durham NC, that aims to create an elegant working environment and build community, all at affordable prices.” – from MissionPost on Facebook.

Michael Goodmon, VP of real estate for Capitol Broadcasting Company, the parent company of American Tobacco Campus (ATC), said many non-profits spent too much time and money finding a suitable space to work. “We created the MissionPost to serve as a beacon, a home base for groups who are working tirelessly to improve our local, state, national and global communities.”

Launched during the summer, Mission Post is already at 90% capacity with the addition of  the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation to the tenants, announced yesterday at ATC.  The Foundation already had historic ties to American Tobacco. ““The Duke family created American Tobacco and this campus,” says Mimi O’Brien, executive director, The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation. “During our search for a new headquarters, we came to the MissionPost and quickly realized there is no better space to match the qualities we know Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans would require. The MissionPost represents, for us, an opportunity to become even more connected with the Durham community and a means to find new opportunities to support it.”
