Asheville Startup Weekend 2013 – Friday, October 4, 2013 at 6:00 PM – Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 9:00 PM (EDT) in Candler, NC. This 54-hour event is designed to teach the skills of entrepreneurship by having participants work on a team to convert an idea into an operating business. During the weekend, participants create working startups and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs. The weekend is centered around action, innovation & education.

FailCon Charlotte – Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 7:45 AM to 7:00 PM (EDT) in Charlotte, NC. FailCon is a one-day conference entrepreneurs, investors, developers, designers, and even “corporate america” to study their own and others’ failures and prepare for success. Charlotte will be the first U.S. city outside of San Francisco to host FailCon. Sounds like one the most interesting events on the October Tech Calendar.

InfoSeCon 2013 -Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (EDT) in Raleigh, NC. The Raleigh ISSA Chapter fall conference is a great opportunity to learn more about information security, talk with companies who provide security products and services, and network with fellow information security professionals. We submit CPE Credits automatically for attendees who provide their CISSP certification information. The goal is to educate attendees about information security, including executives responsible for regulatory compliance and security, information security professionals, software developers, and anyone who wants to know more about information security.

Google in Education North Carolina Summit – Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 7:30 AM – Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 5:00 PM (EDT) in Cary, NC. We invite you to join us for the first annual Google in Education North Carolina Summit to be held at Cary High School on October 19 & 20, 2013 . This high intensity two day event focuses on deploying, integrating and using Google Apps for Education to promote student learning in K-12 and higher education. The program features Google Certified Teachers, Google Apps for Education Certified Trainers, practicing administrators, solution providers, Google engineers, and representatives from the Google education teams.

All Things Open™ – October 23-24, 2013 in Raleigh, NC. All Things Open is a conference for technologists and decision makers around the topic of open source in the enterprise and will be held at the Raleigh Convention Center in downtown Raleigh, NC, the open source city.

Upcoming November Tech Events

TEDxRaleigh 2013 – Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (EDT) in Raleigh, NC. “Quarry the Marvelous” at the National Historic Landmark Josephus Daniels House Auditorium. Come marvel with NC innovators, thinkers, and doers as we explore the waters off North Carolina, unravel the design process, overcome overwhelming odds, and more.

DevFestNC 2013 – Día de los Datos (Day of the Data) – Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (EDT) in Durham, NC. This inaugural event will focus on providing a day for local developers to share knowledge, projects, and products that utilize the vast amount of data available today. Google Developer Group (GDG) meetings are focused on Google technologies, but the conference is open to anything local developers might be working on (web, mobile, server-side, etc.) regardless of the vendor.

Remember to change your clocks at 2:00 AM on November 3, 2013 as we ‘fall back’ from EDT to EST.

Cary’s GREAT PUNKIN’ CHUCK – Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Noon – 5:00 PM (EST) in Cary, NC. Cary’s GREAT PUNKIN’ CHUCK is a mash up of science, back-yard technology and good clean fun hurling pumpkins with trebuchets at targets and for distance. Teams compete for prizes (and glory). Registration Site

TRINUG’s Code Camp will be held in Raleigh on November 9, 2013. More details to follow.

NewME PopUp program – American Underground – November 9-11, 2013, in Durham, NC. NewME Accelerator is a nationally recognized Startup Accelerator for minorities and women based in San Francisco. The American Underground has launched a high-intensity version of the critically acclaimed program. Entrepreneurs will get a taste of what it’s like to participate in the 12-week program in just 3 days.

InternetSummit 2013 – November 12-14, 2013 in Raleigh, NC. Internet Summit is a premier digital strategies forum with a goal of educating and promoting forward thinking and thought leadership on topics related to internet business and marketing.

Triangle Startup Weekend (TSW) – Friday, November 15, 2013 at 6:00 PM – Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 9:00 PM (EST) in Chapel Hill, NC. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs. NOTE, this TSW will be participating in the Startup Weekend Global Startup Battle!

GitHub Training at NC State University – Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (EST) in Raleigh, NC. Git and GitHub have become indispensable tools for software developers of all backgrounds: industrial software engineers, computer scientists, and students and researchers in any other field in which coding is a key part of your work. In this three-hour workshop, GitHub trainer Tim Berglund will lead you carefully through the basic skills you need to be productive with Git and to collaborate with other developers on GitHub. Learn how to convert an existing project to a Git Repository, track changes to your project, protect your work from experimental changes through branching, push code to repositories on GitHub, and collaborate with colleagues through Pull Requests. Bring a laptop with Git installed and be ready to follow along! We look forward to helping work better together with Git.

Global Entrepreneurship Week Luncheon – Entrepreneurship in the Triangle – Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM (EST) in Cary, NC. Join us for a conversation with Mital Patel to hear his view on the budding Technology ecosystem in the Triangle. We want to ask Mital about Startup Weekends, NEXT and many other initiatives Mital sees as important to the triangle ecosystem. This luncheon is part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week and immediately follows the Triangle Startup Weekend held in Chapel Hill that is competing in the 2013 Global Startup Battle!

indieconf 2013 – Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (EST) in Raleigh, NC. Whether your aim is to provide freelance web services or start a lifestyle business, indieconf provides speakers and attendees who’ve been there, done that who can help you grow your independence.

WordCamp Raleigh – November 23-24, 2013 in Raleigh. WordCamp Raleigh is a day and a half long event with over 20 sessions spread across three tracks – Users, Power Users and Developers.

Looking Ahead to 2014

Triangle Open Data Day – February 22-23, 2014 in RTP, NC. It’s a gathering of citizens to write applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analyses using open public data to show support for and encourage the adoption of open data policies by the world’s local, regional and national governments.
