Cary, NC — Saturday dawned on rain and a drop in temperature after record highs Friday. Not the best weather in which to set up Cary’s Ole Time Winter Festival tents for a holiday craft sale.

But, the show must go on, and indeed after an initial soggy and blustery start, the rains somewhat subsided and the crafters that show did business with the festival-goers who braved the weather in search of holiday gifts.

Cary Elementary on the portable stage braves the cold to perform

Entertainment on the stage by Fidelity Bank included an adorable performance by the Cary Elementary Chorus and dance by Annandale Scottish School of Dance.  Santa was on hand at noon to have family photos taken by our own, Brooke Meyer. These make great Holiday cards.

In addition to the Festival, Herb Young Community Center held Santa’s Workshop ,Cary Teen Council’s annual Holiday Celebration. Children could create make and take crafts and get a visit from the big guy.

From 4-6:00 pm Page-Walker  had their annual Holiday Open House with Victorian carolers, crafts, refreshments and best of all: and horse drawn carriage rides of downtown.

By evening, temps had stabilized in time for the Cary Tree Lighting on Town Hall campus.

Steve Daniels mc’d the evening of local entertainment. The Cary High School a capella group, Green Eggs & Jam, performed a comedic rendition of A Partridge in a Pair Tree that mixed in other popular holiday tunes.

The Cary Elementary chorus appeared for the second time that day, with all 50 members. These kids obviously enjoy their teacher, Mr Teachout very much. The smiles were genuine as they broke into song that featured each member also playing a kazoo.

Mayor Weinbrecht introduced this year’s tree lighters, Ralph and Daphne Ashworth, owners of Ashworth Drugs, 14 Hallmark Stores and Ashworth Village. On stage with them were grandson Scott, and two great grandsons. Together they flipped the switch that lit the live cedar’s 2000 multi colored LED lights.
