Cary, NC — Fans of roots music will appreciate what PineCone is doing for the millennial generation when they offer a growing series of Bluegrass camps through the Town of Cary’s Parks & Rec department.

Award Winning Bluegrass Program

Late last year, the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association presented their Arts & Humanities Award to the Town of Cary for the bluegrass summer camp program presented in partnership with PineCone. The bluegrass camps are offered at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center in downtown Cary. Building on the success and popularity of the first three years of the camps, PineCone and the Town of Cary are continuing to work together to offer the camps for a fourth year

Registration Now Open to Cary Residents

Beginner and an intermediate tracks are available for each of three bluegrass instruments: guitar, mandolin, and fiddle.  New this year will be an intermediate songwriting camp in the morning. The afternoon songwriting camp will remain open to any camper. Cary’s EZ Reg site is now open for Cary Residents to register for these and other classes.

Through these camps, students ages 8-16 have the opportunity to write and learn songs and techniques of one of North Carolina’s most popular homegrown musical styles. Class sizes are limited to 12 students.

Seasoned Professionals

The camps will be taught by veteran musicians Charles Pettee (mandolin), Pattie Hopkins (fiddle), Jan Johansson (guitar) and Lynda Dawson (songwriting). Dawson and Hopkins are members of Kickin Grass; Pettee teaches and performs with a variety of groups, including The Shady Grove Band.

The camp will culminate with a special student performance on Friday night, June 27, 2014, as part of Cary’s Starlight Concert Series at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center in downtown Cary.
