Calling Young Film-Makers!

Cary, NC — Sister Cities Association of Cary is holding a video competition in which the winner will not only have their film screened at The Cary but will win $500 in cold hard cash. Here’s the scoop.

How to Attract More Young People

As planning got underway for the upcoming 6th Annual Citizen Diplomacy Summit to be held September 11 at the Cary, the Sister Cities Association set a goal to attract more young people. Thinking aloud, association president Barbara Shepard said the group thought about how young people are always making quick videos and posting them to Vine or YouTube. They decided to host their own contest, with the theme being “Building Cultural Bridges”.

That theme was used at last year’s summit held at the Page-Walker. The association is eager to see how young people interpret the sentiment into video.

  • Contestants must be 18-25 years old ( about college aged).
  • Vidoes should be no more than 4 minutes in length.
  • All must be residents of North Carolina.
  • Videos must be submitted to the website no later than July 11, 2014.
  • Videos must correspond to the competition theme, “Building Cultural Bridges.”

Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries. The winner will get $500, second place will receive $250 and third place will get $100.  Barbara Shepard said that the association is getting grants to cover the cost of these generous awards.

Deadline for all submissions is July 11, 2014. All three videos will be screened at the September 11th Citizen Diplomacy Summit on September 11, at The Cary. This will be a ticketed event, but details are still being worked out.

If you know of anyone in the appropriate age-range who would be interested in creating something to enter, visit this website for additional info.

Thanks for the great shout-out about this competition. I saw an interesting video on Google+ recently that talked about how much millennials “look down” and focus on their smart devices rather than looking at the world around them. This competition encourages them to look up and around at their world. Can’t wait to see how many different interpretations of Building Cultural Bridges we get.
