Cary, NC — The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for the third annual National Train Day at the Town of Cary’s Depot on Saturday May 10, 2014.

Cary Celebrates National Train Day 2014

On Saturday, Downtown was the place to be as thousands of families visited a festival that has grown by leaps and bounds. This year, Heart of Cary Association, organizers of Cary Tain Day, expanded the event to include local vendors displaying goods for sale, as well as face painting, food trucks, train-themed bounce houses, Huggington children’s play train play areas and more. The event was free to attend, but various booths had items for sale.

The Cary Band kicked off the morning as the 10:05 am Amtrak train made its morning whistle stop in the station. The New Hope Valley Train people were on hand with their own train whistle too. The first 1000 children to visit also received their own wooden train whistle.

Here’s a fact you may not know: 90,000 people board the train annually at the Cary Station according to the Amtrak spokesperson. In fact, Amtrak ridership has been dramatically increasing over the last 10 years.

If you missed Train Day in Cary this year, enjoy the photos and mark your calendars for the 2nd Saturday in May for 2015.
