Cary, NC — It’s the most wonderful time of the year…to find tons of holiday events right here in town. This weekend, visit two Cary tree lightnings and enjoy multiple holiday shows.

Stop by the Holiday Shoppe at the Cary Academy campus from 9:30 am-5 pm on Thursday to find creative gifts, specialty items, and food from over 100 vendors. All purchases benefit the academy’s scholarship and community outreach programs. The shoppe continues into Friday and Saturday.
Don’t forget to attend the Holiday Healthfest at Active BodEz gym in Morrisville from 11 am-2 pm. Donate to “Toys for Troops” and receive gift certificates from participating vendors and demos of the gym’s personal training services.
Have your choice of two evening shows–Green Hope High will be performing their Winter Strings Concert from 7-9 pm in the school auditorium, and the Cary Players will be acting out their It’s a Wonderful Life Radio Play at the Cary Arts Center at 7:30 pm. The Radio Play continues throughout the weekend.

Join Diamante, Inc. for an Arbolito de la Esperanza: Tree of Hope Lighting at Herb Young Community Center from 6:30-8:30 pm on Friday evening. This free event includes a public potluck dinner with holiday foods from Latin American countries and music from local Latino musicians.

The Heart of Cary Association’s 11th annual event–The Ole Time Winter Festival–starts at 10 am on Saturday and continues until 4 pm in Downtown Cary. There will be arts & crafts, entertainment, food, shopping, activities, and more.
Take your pick of many other family-friendly holiday events today as well, like two Christmas movies at the Cary Theater, Santa’s Workshop for kids, a Holiday Open House at Page-Walker, and, of course, the official Town of Cary Tree Lighting. They’re all on the calendar and in our 2014 Holiday Event Guide.
An art exhibit from the Cary Photographic Artists is opening at the Cary Arts Center–stop by from 2-4 pm.
Harold Wusthof, 7th generation owner of Wusthof Knives, will be at Whisk at Waverly Place from 11 am-2pm for a meet and greet, product demonstration, and drawing to win a 16-piece knife set valued at $1,420.
The Cary Invasion will be playing against the Burlington Knights Saturday night from 7-9 pm at Herb Young. Come cheer on Cary’s very own basketball team.

Be part of a longstanding holiday tradition at Westwood Baptist Church. In their 44th year of doing so, the Cary Community Choir will be presenting Handel’s Messiah from 7:30-8:30 on Sunday evening. No tickets are required to hear the beautiful music, but a freewill offering will be taken at the door.

Across the Triangle
Stand up comedian John Oliver will be at the Durham Performing Arts Center on Friday at 7:30 pm and again at 10 pm. Tickets range from $39-$44, and the show is recommended for mature audiences only.
This weekend at the Carrboro Arts Center, see the holiday musical All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, a show that commemorates the 100th Anniversary of World War One. Watch as English, Scottish, French, and German soldiers break barriers and celebrate the holidays with one another. Tickets are only $12-$18.
Despite the chilly weather, there’s lots going on in Downtown Raleigh on First Friday this month including holiday gift shops at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) and the LGBT Center of Raleigh. Explore all the galleries to find even more art sales, crafts, gifts, exhibitions, and lots of beer.
