Train Day: May 9 in Downtown Cary
Cary, NC — Who doesn’t love trains? On Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Amtrak Station in Downtown Cary, families and kids can enjoy Train Day, an outdoor festival filled with exploration, learning opportunities, booth vendors and fun.
Train Day in Cary
For years now, Train Day has been a big deal in Cary. Fun, educational activities and train explorations combined with crafts and food vendors, music and inflatables draw many families from both Cary and the Triangle to the festival each year.
The celebration, however, wasn’t always held in Cary.
Train Days, held by Amtrak, take place all over the nation, but this area’s Train Day moved from the Raleigh Amtrak station to the Downtown Cary depot in 2011. The event, while fun for families of all ages, is known to draw many families with young children. Downtown Cary’s accessibility and “small-town feel” make the Cary depot a great location for the festival.
Food, Music & Crafts
Train Day has grown tremendously since its Cary premiere. This year, the Heart of Cary Association and the Page-Walker Arts & History Center are working together to provide even more festival activities for the community. “We are excited to see the growth of this event each year since we started in 2011,” said Joy Pike of HoCA.
To engage both parents and kids, the 2015 Train Day will feature 20 booths with train information, crafts for sale and food from Chuckwagon, Pop-n-Tyme, Smitty’s ice cream, Chick-Fil-a and more. Entertainment will be provided by Church Street Jazz, Officer Everette & Chase, White Tiger Martial Arts, Motley Tones and Starpath Dance Academy.
There will also be a bounce house obstacle course for the kids to enjoy. Get to the event early to welcome the morning train and hear the Cary Town Band play. Free wooden train whistles will be given to the first 75 children in attendance.
