Cary, NC — The calendar of events is full this weekend with fun events like the RailHawks’ Pig Pickin’, trivia night at Chatham Hill Winery and new sculptures Downtown.

Take your young one to Preschool Story Time at West Regional Library at 10 am or 11 am on Thursday morning for a program that incorporates books, songs and movement to nurture pre-reading skills. Family Story Time will also take place later, at 7 pm.

Then, starting at 7 pm at Koka Booth, enjoy the movie Almost Famous under the stars.

This is the biggest day of the year for art in Cary. Meet Cary Visual Art (CVA) at 10 am in front of Town Hall in Downtown Cary to check in for a walking tour of the sculptures that are being installed that morning (you might get to watch a crane lift a sculpture through the sky).

Kids ages 4-12 can enjoy Hot Dogs & Canoeing with Dad at Bond Park from 5:30-8 pm on Friday evening. Start the night off with a quick pedal boat or canoe ride with Dad on the lake then enjoy a hot dog dinner at the Buehler Shelter! $23 fee includes one child and one parent.

From 6-8:30 pm, join CVA for an OSE Artists’ Reception at the Cary Arts Center. Mingle with the artists and juror Clifford T. Chieffo, who will announce the highly anticipated Best in Show prize and enjoy live entertainment, local fare and cocktails. Purchase tickets online.

It’s Trivia Night at Chatham Hill Winery from 7-10 pm with wine specials, beers on tap and food from the Dump Pho King food truck. Winners will receive a $50 Chatham Hill gift card.

This week, at the Cary Downtown Farmer’s Market (8 am-12:30 pm at the Ivey Ellington House), enjoy music from Steve Holcomb while checking out vendors selling produce, meats, cheeses, eggs, coffee, crafts and more.

Check the calendar for the locations and times of all four of Cary’s farmers markets.

Then, enjoy classic rock with The Whiskey Runners from 8 am-noon at Tra’Li Irish Pub.

From 11 am-2 pm, visit VOM FASS in Waverly Place for an Oil and Vinegar 101 class where you’ll enjoy tasting and learning about vinaigrettes and marinades that you can make at home.

At 5:30 pm, join the Carolina RailHawks for a Pig Pickin’ before their game against the San Antonia Scorpions at 7:30 pm at WakeMed Soccer Park. Tickets are $17 if over 21 and $12 if under 21. The Pig Pickin’ will offer food and beverages for sale, a liquor tasting, live music, an amateur BBQ contest and more. Then, stay for the game.

Across the Triangle

Enjoy a free, outdoor concert featuring the British Invaders Band in Downtown Durham at Brightleaf Square on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 6-9 pm. Then, partake in Durham’s Third Friday gallery crawl with art, live music and other performances.

On Saturday, July 18, 2015, watch an outdoor movie in Chapel Hill’s Southern Village at 8 pm. This month, it’s The Goonies, Rated PG. Tickets are $5.

On Sunday, July 19, 2015 (and on the 3rd Sundays of the month, now through October), families can enjoy a Third Sunday Children’s Carnival in front of the Raleigh Times bar in Downtown Raleigh with fun and games from 11 am-3 pm.
