Cary, NC — Two customers recently purchased cars priced at over $1.6 million each from Taggart Autosport in Cary.

We wrote about Taggart Autosport, a new showroom and factory that constructs exotic supercars and off-road vehicles right here in Cary, when the business first opened in October 2015. Just last week, we found out that two insanely expensive cars (likely the highest priced cars ever sold in the Triangle and some of the most expensive on the market in America this year) were recently sold to customers from the store located right here in Cary on NW Maynard Road.
Both of the cars sold were Porsche 918 Spyders, highly-coveted super cars that, for the 2014 model year, were only manufactured 918 times. Production of the Spyders in the U.S. began in September 2013, and deliveries to customers began by 2014. The starting price of the cars was $847,000, and the 918 Spyder was sold out by December 2014.
The cars can still be built according to customers’ requests, though, and two were sold from right here in Cary last year.
Jim Taggart of Taggart Autosport sold one of his Spyders to a gentleman in New York, and the second went to the first customer’s brother, who is based in Arizona. The cars were priced at over $1.6 million each.
Porsche 918 Spyder
What makes the Porsche 918 Spyder a million dollar car? It’s a mid-engined, plug-in hybrid hypercar, for one.
In mid-engined vehicles, or M4s, the internal combustion engine is in the middle of the vehicle, between both axles, and drives all four road wheels. A hyper car is a vehicle with ultra-light construction and an aerodynamic body.
The Spyder is also powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.6 litre V8 engine that develops 608 horsepower (453 kW) while two electric motors deliver an additional 279 horsepower (208 kW) for a combined output of 887 horsepower (661 kW).
The car has a top speed of around 210 mph.
