Weekend: Live Music, Food Festivals and More
Cary, NC – Aside from some possible rain on Friday, this weekend should be as warm and bright as the rest of the working week and there are several events going on around town.

Live at Lunch is just starting up, as local musicians play in Downtown Cary. This week’s artist is pianist Ben Torres and he will be playing for free outside of the Ivey Ellington House, near Ashworth Village, starting at 11:30 a.m.
Live in the District Music Series is another great place to hear local music for free. The Mikele Buck Band is playing in front of Stone Theatre – Park West 14 and there are activities for kids there as well. The event goes from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The Cary Photographic Artists have one of their meetings at the Cary Theatre. Artists can show off their photographs and see a presentation by prominent local photographers. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.

STEM+C Made Fun is an open class at CAML Academy to teach interested community members about computer science and programming. The event goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will have presentation on using 3D printers and how to program by way of Minecraft. A similar event is also available on Thursday.
Sparkling Italian Wine Tasting will give Cary wine fans a chance to try some Italian brands at the Chatham Street Wine Market. Importers and winemakers will be in-store during the event, which goes from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Cary Players Present The Wizard of Oz as part of an expanded Family Series. At the Cary Arts Theatre, audiences can see the story of Dorothy as she sets off on a quest for the mighty Wizard only to discover…well, no spoilers. The show goes from Friday to Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m., and a family show at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

If you’ve ever seen a berry growing in the wild and wondered if you could safely eat it, then Good Berry, Bad Berry is for you. With speaker Helen Yoest, she will help those who come to hear her at the Garden Supply Co. on Old Apex Road how to properly identify berries from 10 to 11 a.m.
Cary’s Cultural Mosaic is a presentation of different arts from around the world, intended for those age 16 and younger. Presenters will demonstrate art from India to Turkey; from China to Ireland; and more. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sertoma Amphitheatre in Bond Park.
Concert Singers of Cary present “Deepness of Blue,” drawing from the music and poetry of the African-American tradition. The choir will be performing at the St. Francis United Methodist Church from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Information on tickets is at concertsingers.org.
Abbey Road is having their annual Anniversary Bash on Saturday from noon to midnight. Four bands, plus food, beer, cornhole and more.

The 4th Annual Turkish Food & Art Festival will have a variety of food and dessert reflecting the varied culture of Turkey. Also at the festival will be face painting, Turkish calligraphy and more. The event is held in the Divan Center and goes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Literary Tea will feature five writers who reflect different aspects of African-American literary tradition. The authors will speak from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center.
The 4th Annual Run to Remember is a race to raise money for Alzheimer’s research and treatment in the area, as well as related dementias. The event goes from 3 to 5 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park.

Across the Triangle
The Real-ish Housewives of Raleigh is a comedy show satirizing both reality TV and North Carolina’s current events. The performers will take the stage at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts and goes all weekend, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Triangle SciTech Expo is open to the public on Saturday, April 23. At the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, visitors can participate in hands-on experiments to learn about all different fields of science and see parts of the museum normally closed off. The expo is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Durham’s Bull City Battle of the Bands will see North Carolina’s top high school marching bands compete for total drumline supremacy. It all takes place at North Carolina Central University’s Hall of Fame, Saturday April 23 at 5 p.m., with doors opening at 3 p.m.
