Opening Pitch for Cary’s Eighth NCAA Baseball Tournament
Cary, NC – Just as the beautiful weather and Summer heat are starting up, Cary is ready to host the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship for the eighth consecutive year.
Competing Regional Champs
This Saturday, May 28, 2016 marks the first game of the baseball tournament, pitting eight of the top teams in the division against one another. Those teams are:
- Angelo State University (in Texas)
- California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
- Franklin Pierce University (in New Hampshire)
- Lander University (in South Carolina)
- Millersville University of Pennsylvania
- Nova Southeastern University (in Florida)
- University of Central Missouri
- University of Southern Indiana
Southern Indiana has won the championship twice in the past 10 years. Of all the other teams now in contention for the Division II championship, the only one to win in the last 30 years was Cal Poly Pomona in 1983.
Cary has hosted the Division II Baseball Championship since 2008 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on 7445 Green Hope School Rd. and is set to host the coming championship games through 2018.
Take Yourself Out to the Ball Game
The tournament’s games run from Saturday, May 28 to Saturday, June 4, 2016, with two games each day until the finals. Games start at 3 and 7 PM, except for the final games on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4 which both start at 3 PM with rescheduled games at 7 PM if necessary.
All throughout the week, the USA Baseball National Training Complex is holding events and promotions for fans who come out to see the games. Most of the games will have a souvenir giveaway for the first few hundred spectators who enter. There are also reduced prices for food on Monday, May 30, 2016 and reduced prices on drinks for anyone with a souvenir cup on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.
There are also promotions for free tickets and entry. On Monday, May 30, 2016, all military personnel, including retired members, get in free. And for the week before the championship games started, the Town of Cary gave away a limited number of free tickets to Cary residents who went to Bond Park and picked them up.
The final championship game on Saturday, June 4, 2016 is also reduced price.

NCAA DII Baseball Game Day Changes
Please read carefully. The NCAA Division II Baseball Games scheduled for Sunday, May 29th have been rescheduled to Saturday, May 28th because of the heavy rain forecast for Sunday. This means NO FIREWORKS on Saturday, May 28th and NO GAMES on Sunday, May 29th. Here is the updated game schedule for Saturday, May 28th:
10:00 a.m. Angelo State vs Millersville University
1:30 p.m. Cal Poly-Pomona vs University of Southern Indiana
5:00 p.m. Nova Southeastern vs Franklin Pierce University (originally scheduled 5/29 @ 3pm)
8:30 p.m. Lander University vs Central Missouri University (originally scheduled 5/29 @ 7pm)
There will be NO FIREWORKS after the games on Saturday. However, the promotion for Saturday will now be NCAA Sunglasses (first 250). Any tickets, including, promotional tickets picked up at Bond Park Community Center will be honored on Saturday as well.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m., free parking, and your ticket is good for all 4 games!
Reminder, due to the schedule change above, no games will be played Sunday, May 29th.
