An Afternoon with the Birds
White Plains United Methodist Church, 313 SE Maynard Rd.
Sunday, June 26, 2 to 5 PM
The American Wildlife Refuge rescues and rehabilitates birds of prey and provides refuge for birds unable to be released. It’s also dedicated to educating the public about these majestic birds. On Sunday, they’re bringing owls, hawks and other raptors to the gymnasium of White Plains United Methodist Church. You’ll have the chance to learn about them and to take plenty of pictures with them. All ages are invited, as long as visitors can respect the boundaries communicated by the handlers (Hint: Selfies are good. Touching the birds is not).
Chatham Street Chowdown Food Truck Rally
Chatham Street, Downtown Cary
Sunday, June 26, 5 to 9:30 PM

Just a few of the trucks you’ll find are Mr. Beignets, Cousins Maine Lobster, Little Dipper’s Italian Ice, Mac-Ur-Roni and Hibachi Xpress. Breweries and wineries will be on hand too. Bring money for food and drink, but enjoy the entertainment for free. Mikemickxer will be playing rockabilly, reggae, funk and old-time rock and roll from 5 to 7:00 PM and Trophy Husbands will be bringing their mix of Americana, R&B and Motown to the celebration from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Wind Down Wednesdays
Waverly Place, 2001 Kildaire Farm Rd.
Wednesday, June 29, 6 to 9 PM
Every Wednesday through July 27, Waverly Place is the place to spend your evening. The highlight is the live music — this week it’s Jim Quick and the Coastline, with their soul/blues/rock sound — but there’s more to enjoy too. Kids can play on the two playgrounds and cool off at the splash pad. The shops and restaurants will be open and many will be offering Wind Down Wednesday specials. Bring a lawn chair and relax. No outside alcohol, glass containers or coolers are allowed.
